If your particular flavor of Gamma-style games runs to the road warrior side of the genre, then you'll be pleased to hear that Games Workshop's board game Dark Future is being developed into an incredible-looking crash-n-bash video game: Dark Future: Blood Red States. Here are a few mean lookin' street machines from the game:

But the source material isn't just being ported into the digital arena, it's also being updated to include a more modern and scientifically accurate take on the post-apocalyptic genre.

This behind-the-scenes video highlights the game's ties to science fiction and features interviews with the original creator James Swallow and game developers at Auroch Digital--and even a biologist who talks about the real risks that arise in a world affected by climate change. It's a fascinating way to think about creating or updating the source material and definitely great fodder for your own gaming inspiration!

As a kid of the 80s, one of my favorite computer games on the Commodore 64 was Mail Order Monsters. In the game, you'd pick a template for a vat-grown creature--say a T-rex, giant spider, or lion/bear creature--outfit it with weapons, and send it into gladiatorial combat to win fortune and glory.

It has--at the very least--strong thematic ties to Gamma World, if not more specifically, Gammaruaders.

Your winnings would allow you to buy upgrades so you could be more effective in battle and (hopefully) ascend to become champion.

What really sold my young brain on the concept though, was the manual. It had this awesome box art which included photographed (!) prop weapons. The marketing and packaging around the whole game was genius--they wanted you to feel like this was the real deal.

You can imagine how this would effect on an impressionable young lad, such as myself:

Monsters fighting monsters? Cool. Slick futuristic weapons? WAIT--THIS IS REAL? Sold.

Right click to enlarge images

Yeah, and a scuba tank. But...whaddya gonna' do?

Now I just need to track me down a copy of the manual so I can stat these up!

With so many sources from which to field for inspiration, it's sometimes hard to pin down exactly what qualifies as "mutant" in a post-apocalyptic setting. In Marvel's universe--as with the X-men and other X-groups--the term "mutant" applies to a new class of human being called "homo superior," or a human who's genetic code is in someway altered to acquire any sort of superhuman (and I'll throw in here "non-human") abilities.

In the Marvel universe, Iceman with his power to create ice constructs, Jean Grey and her ability to read minds/use telekinesis, and Wolverine with his incredible healing ability are considered, mutants.

Switch to something like Total Recal where the mutants are more of a traditionally "deformed" depiction. Kuato, Benny, and a host of other melted-face Martians fill that role.

In GWW, I'm using it in a much broader sense--to mean an individual or group, who's appearance and makeup deviates from an ancestral species of origin. This includes hybrid types (e.g., any sort of were-creature), to the Cyborna races, which are at least partially robotic. There are enough of them that have, in some way, deviated from their collective original forms that they qualify as a new species or subspecies. I guess Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: After the Bomb would be a good example of this style.

It doesn't really matter how they became a mutant--they didn't need to be the result of some sort of evolutionary process. A mutant could be an individual who came in contact with some foreign, mutanagenic substance that caused them to change. In GWW, Spider-man would easily be considered to be a mutant, even though his classification as one is oft debated.

It might be easier to state what mutants aren't. They aren't pure strain humans, called Valids-- or flora or fauna, for that matter. They aren't purely robots, created for some specific task. They aren't unmended (reanimated dead). They aren't extraterrestrials. At least--in all of the above cases--they aren't until they begin to deviate from those baseline origins.

More later...
PRE CATALYSM (P.C.)

Late 22nd Century Earth
Advanced technologies in just about every discipline have brought prosperity to the world. Most of these miraculous breakthroughs have afforded humanity the promise of off-world colonies to ensure the survival of the species.

THE GREAT CATACLYSM (G.C.)

The disaster to end all disasters happens. All civilizations perish from the surface of the Earth. No one quite remembers what triggered it. Whatever caused it has passed from the collective consciousness, but it left the world in ruins.

AFTER CATACLYSM (A.C.)

Earth is in ruins. Anyone on the surface of the Earth who wasn't killed in the Great Cataclysm, either survived in underground strongholds or remained topside but mutated away from their genome of origin.

100 A.C.
Some sub-terra bunkers begin to form city-states deep under the Earth, through totalitarian rule. Meanwhile, the surface-dwellers are left to fight over scraps. Evolution has accelerated, and the first cross-fauna mutants emerge.

150 A.C.
Subterrans return to the surface with small, short-trip scouting parties. Due in part to encounters with brutal Mechlok gangs and frightening Inhuma tribes, news spreads of the devastation and the "horror" of the mutated "monsters" above.

360 A.C.
Several pure-strain cities join to form a new government based on their un-mutated purity, calling themselves the "Valids," which is shorthand for the only acceptable form of humanity. Raiding parties have ventured topside for regular cullings of mutants who are feared and hated by Valids. Strange lights in the sky have been reported.

520 A.C.
Though skirmishes had occurred in the intervening years, the first real full-scale battle between Valids and several bands of roving mutants takes place near the Michigan Wastes. There's no clear victor, but the conflict fuels anti-Valid sentiment above ground.

775 A.C.
After centuries of hard-fought war, a league made up of Valid city-states has committed to retaking the surface in order to win back the Earth. Several mutant groups have been hunted to extinction, but many more have forged alliances in order to keep the human threat at bay.

899 A.C.
The first New Evolutionaries are spotted. They appear quite alien, having few humanoid qualities.

960 A.C.
Dysponia, the first mutant government is established. Hundreds of mutant factions flock to join a centralized effort to combat the Valids.

988 A.C.
Mutants and Valids alike are preparing for a large-scale war, but with resources scarce, raiding parties are sent by both sides to reclaim ancient technology and raw materials. Inevitably skirmishes erupt.

1015 A.C.
Raiding has led to larger open conflicts but both sides are still cautious about full-scale war, citing supply issues and fear about what could happen to their respective, fragile civilizations. In a relatively short period of time, many more New Evolutionaries appear and while still alien in nature, appear more humanoid sized and shaped.

1016 A.C.
Intelligence on a Wonder of the Ancients has leaked from the Valids and the mutant forces are looking to beat them to it before they're forced into a surrender worse. Raiding parties are sent and stumble into forgotten stronghold from eons ago. Blood is spilled and laserfire exchanged as they clash over the scene--but a NEW threat has arrived!

Close to midnight, on a hot and humid, midsummer night an onslaught of energy weapons begins tearing up the Earth around the fortress. A fleet of extraterrestrial battleships has arrived! A three-way conflict between humans, mutants, and aliens--and the war for the future of Gamma Terra--has begun!

More to come...

Note: All years are approximate. I may totally mess with this timeline and revise as needed!Jay Exonautshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11336829684749993354noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9149949429019930140.post-90963465103998900642014-12-10T14:56:00.001-06:002014-12-10T14:56:39.404-06:00MAD MAX TRAILER: "Blood and Fire" are the rules of Fury Road!
This is Italian-made Saturday afternoon, eighties Gamma-cheese at it's finest.

It looks like the prequel to my favorite Spaghetti-pocalypse film, 2019: The Fall of New York. (Somehow I missed doing a recap on that one, I'll have to correct that soon.)

It stars exploitation film staple Fred Williamson (Black Caesar, the Black Cobra series) as said, explosive archer. Really, what more can you ask for?
Haven't watched it yet myself, but I think there's obviously a lot here that can be mined for a Gamma-setting of your choice---particularly those looking to emulate a Mad Max feel.

Here's a random table and some GM notes to help fashion a nice little complication for your next gamma adventure. The PCs stumble upon a canister of mutagen tablets. The tablets themselves appear like large, chewable multivitamins (and should be introduced as such) and smell like delicious, sugary confections.

Once ingested, the tablet goes to work mutating its prey...

1d20 of icky random mutations:

Eye tendrils, flailing all the time

Back scales (2"-3"), itchy and molting

Constant, loud wheezing from your new, tiny "throat mouth"

Sideburns, running down neck, shoulders, ending at wrists (hopefully)

A slippery ooze between extremities that won't go away, even with washing

Extra teeth! Pop out of jaw line, hairline, and along knuckles of hands and feet

Shoulders begin to bubble and swell into large sacks of leaky, too-sweet smelling fluid

"Everything is normal!" say the tiny faces that appear where your kneecaps used to be

Iguanna tail sprouts, greens up nicely, turns brown and dies and falls off...on an endless cycle

Roll twice on this table, if you get #20 both times, you lucked out--no mutation!

Knees now bend the other direction, walk like a chicken (add +2 to your move if you roleplay a headbob for the rest of the session)

The person on your left gets to pick any two from this list for you

Heel hooves! Which are hooves. On your heels.

Fancy colored fish fins line your cranium and spine; also, constant dry mouth for some reason

Polydactyly protrusions overcome hands, constantly wiggling

Gurgling a pungent slime when attempting to make persuasive arguments

Narwhal tusk! You know that's a tooth that protrudes through your face, right?

An ankylosaurus tail bursts out the back of your pants---pray you have the abs, back, and calf muscles to counter the added mass

Pheromone firestorm gives you a massive +5 Charisma bonus, any NPCs you encounter follow you around for 1d10 rounds

All of the above (you poor bastard!)

Optional GM imposed fun!
Apply as desired...

PCs with one mutation from the above list suffer -2 on any rolls involving NPC interactions (interviewing, negotiating, bluffing) but gain +2 to intimidate

PCs with two or more mutations will be considered "monstrous" and hunted on sight by any armed NPCs

Bounty is equal to Hit Points times 10 credits

If PC rolled any of the following mutations: 2,3,5,7, 9, 16, 19, it's nearly impossible to cover her/his tracks as she/he flees (pursuers gain +2 to track you)

If PC evades capture for longer than 1d10 rounds, the bounty on his/her head triples

If PC evades capture the entire game session, the PC becomes a local legend and the bounty now equals HP times 100 credits

If PC becomes a local legend, a squad of killer androids (8) with cyborg hounds (4) is unleashed to hunt he/she down; androids are equipped with infravision, +1 laser-eye sights (to hit bonus) and a 2d4+1 sub-machine gun; hounds have olfactory and audio sensors (+2 tracking) and armed with 1d8 robo-bite and 1d6+1 cyber-claw

If adventuring party finds a science or medical lab, a cure can be reverse-engineered from mutated PC's blood; at least one member of the party must have relatable skill (science, medicine, genetics, etc.), or find an NPC who can concoct antidote in 1d10 rounds -1 round for each level of experience in that skill; cure takes effect immediately

If more than one PC consumed mutagen tablet, the cure works for all affected and they return to their "normal" selves

Somehow I'd forgotten that in addition to the insanely cool action figures and playsets, there was also a Dino-Riders television series. The pilot is equal parts awesome/terrible/surprisingly dark for a kids show. So chances are you'll love it!

Check out the pilot episode...

Some observations...

That opening. Uff-da. Thankfully, sketchy-rotoscoping went out with hypercolor clothes.

The set-up for the show is swipes quite a bit from the Transformers arrival to a prehistoric Earth (was it Earth? Seemed like a different planet), except for: no sleepy robots waiting to be woken up millions of years later. Hell, it even has the same voice cast!

The TV show was just an excuse to sell toys. Beautiful, perfect toys...

I rather like the psionic amulets the characters use to communicate with the dinosaurs. Definitely has potential to be mistaken as magic in a game setting.

Speaking of which, there's---of course---plenty here from which to borrow for gaming, like the mutant baddies (aliens based on Earth-like creatures), crashed spaceships and the futuristic technology they brought along, and most notably--"brain boxing" the dinos into war machines.

Perfect for Gamma-gaming!

I think if I were to run this as a campaign, it'd be the "ancient history" for a Herculoids setting. You could make Dino-Riders the backstory--or even a playable "A Long Time Ago" one shot before the main present day with the Herculoids:

In the distant past, a great galactic war between humans and mutant aliens is at hand!

Humans pursued by mutant aliens, crash on dinosaur planet

Both sides use advanced tech arm dinos, fight and stuff

Soon, they establish themselves, creating tribes and makeshift societies

Eventually they nearly wipe each other out, but their tech has permanently altered the planet's fauna and flora

Over time, a few humans still inhabit the planet, but are themselves an endangered species

Mutant alien empire is the first to send a successful search party for their disappeared comrades

Present day: baddies end up finding a small family, descended from human survivor of the original war

Family has made allies of local mega fauna in their fight to defend their home

Planet becomes an important strategic point in the greater human vs. mutant alien conflict

Here's a Megafauna Wetwire system I wrote for X-plorers RPG, but could be easily plugged into just about any game.

Also for your perusal...

TSR did a perfectly themed but unsuccessful entry in the dinosaurs-with-lasers category called Gammarauders. It was a boxed game that was also supported by a DC comics miniseries. I have a copy of this game but have yet to play it myself. :-(

Fisher Price's (Mattel, basically) Imaginext line of toys did a "revival" of sorts of the dinosaurs-with-lasers concept. Looks like the series might be finished, but you can still find some on eBay and a few smaller stores with overstock.

The Imaginext vestigial arm upgrades were a big improvement over Tyco's useless foreclaws:

Image Comics has a fantastically fun, all-ages title called Super Dinosaur, where a kid and his T-rex go on adventures in the "Inner Earth" with the dino dressed up in Iron Man-esque armor. It's got a very Johnny Quest in the hollow Earth" feel to it. Also, SD has probably the best system yet for buffing-up his tiny forelimbs--JOYSTICKS!

Still wondering why Hollywood has missed the whole dinosaurs with frickin' lasers genre. Instead we're getting movies based on Battleship and Ouija boards. C'mon Spielberg--supe up those dinos in Jurassic World!!

Any number of MacGuffins or standard scifi tropes would likely do, to serve as impetus from otherworldly conquerers. But this story gave me a pretty good idea as to why aliens in GWW might have reason to take over our planet--and not care if the surface was scorched clean by death rays. As it turns out, the Earth may hold up to three times more water reserves than previously thought--deep underground.

The V mini-series from the 80s was right all along!

From The Guardian:

The water is locked up in a mineral called ringwoodite about 660km (400 miles) beneath the crust of the Earth, [emphasis mine] researchers say. Geophysicist Steve Jacobsen from Northwestern University in the US co-authored the study published in the journal Science and said the discovery suggested Earth’s water may have come from within, driven to the surface by geological activity, rather than being deposited by icy comets hitting the forming planet as held by the prevailing theories.

“Geological processes on the Earth’s surface, such as earthquakes or erupting volcanoes, are an expression of what is going on inside the Earth, out of our sight,” Jacobsen said.

So the Earth is, in fact, an even bigger source for water in the solar system. Not to mention the fact that the reserves could be inspiration for the "great cataclysm" itself. It makes sense, from a narrative standpoint why the subterranean-dwelling valids would want to jealously protect the Earth's remaining, untouched resources.

What more can I say, science is cool!
One of the subraces--a group of anatomically altered beings, usually sporting crude mechanical components--was classified "cybornas".

But I've had a while to think on it, and that term is more appropriate to the parent group, since all are, in some fashion "cybernetic" in nature. Plus, the earlier cyborna race was more inclined to be mechanical in nature. The term actually derives from "morlock," the subhuman savages featured in H. G. Wells' The Time Machine. Mechlok sounds more in line with the Mad Max feel of that group.

Henceforth, Cyborna shall refer to the entire group of cybernetic beings, which now includes Mechloks (mechanized cyborgs), Syndrones (genetic androids), and Golthans (mute giants).

As for that earlier point on races as a class--yes, I intend to make the different races operate more like classes in the game. The intention is to create loose factions, based along racial cultures and characteristics. More on that later. For now, here's the revised entry...

RACES: CYBORNA

Cybornas are artificial or artificially-enhanced humanoid beings of which three are three distinct types: Mechloks (half biological, half electromechanical), Syndrones (organically grown androids), and Golthans (manufactured, giant androids).

Mechlok clans roam the ruins of fallen cities and industrial sites in search of tools, fuel, or tech to enhance their motley features. They can range from highly-sophisticated composites to hack-n-slash monstrosities (in the wilds, the latter are usually more prominent). About half of all mechloks have some sort of enhanced, if not totally, mechanical means of locomotion.

They are largely nomadic raiders, attacking small- to medium-sized settlements for food, fuel, and spare parts. Just about every clan is lead by a chieftain that's chosen by right of challenge, crewed by mechlok "claners" (junkers who cherry pick spare parts, and accompanied by some sort of ground-based war machine or juggernaught. They don't like outsiders, which can include rival clans.

Syndrones are grown from genetically spliced pods that act as spawning plants. After the cataclysm, their mental development seemed to accelerate, allowing them to form highly-advanced colonies. They're descendants of ancient androids that--in the quest for self perfection--began modifying their own manufacturing. The result is something akin to a humanoid made from organic-based polymers, filled with a densely-woven positronic network.

Syndrones typically live in agricultural communes, spending the bulk of their resources on cutivating new crops of young and acting as healers for all forms of cybernetic life. Some factions have been known to associate with Valids, providing intelligence in return for certain, hard-to-find resources found only underground. They appear as exceptionally graceful beings with an enlightened sensibility. Golthans are giant, mute androids that range in size between 3 and 10 meters and appear in a variety of humanoid forms. They were built as artificially intelligent combat units by Goliath Robotics International in the late 21st century, but an attack by a radical sect of hackers turned Goliath's best-selling products into an army of curious, robot children.

The hackers uploaded a virus into a GRI server that provided realtime updates to all model types located throughout the world. The virus included an algorithm that would allow their positronic brains to develop highly-emotive personalities (originally intended by the virus authors to be passive).

Around the time of the cataclysm they all simultaneously lost the ability to speak. Whether by misunderstanding or the simple fact of their unusual size, Golthans are usually loners, living for centuries at a time in the wilds, where they can observe nature away from the rest of mutant society. As they tend not to comprehend their own size and strength compared with lesser beings, those that encounter them should exercise extreme caution.
*Couldn't resist imagining this for game use! Two caveats: 1. Motopeds hasn't released the specs yet and 2. I am not a motorbike person so I'm totally guessing on stats. I'll update as soon as Motopeds announces the final product (this is apparently just a prototype).

I'm really looking forward to this new installment of the X-men. It looks like they've done a bang-up job of envisioning a desolate future. This clip apparently appears early in the film with mutants on the run. It'd make a great adventure scenario--similar to the first part of the Gamma World War campaign's adventure path.

In any case, the visuals are stunning--and that's more than enough reason to post it!
Basically this would take you step-by-step through the storyline. You'd get to play different characters representing different sides of the conflict, but it could also be written to include a storypath for single group (but where's the fun in that?).

In my mind's eye, I envision this to be sort of tournament-style play where multiple groups play each round and outcomes get reported back to a "master judge" who can then give results, story cues, and other details to the GMs to run the next round. So each round should build on the previous.

Players would likely generate a few different characters at the outset, namely a few pure-strain humans, several mutants, and a few alien characters. At least three of these adventures (currently, anyway) have alternate takes where players could play for the other side (I've marked them as ALT).

ROUND 1: MUTANT SNIPE HUNT

You're a member of an elite team of pure strain humans called "Valids" that is out to clear the surface world of mutant scum and make the Earth safe or habitation again. Your team is one of several culling squads sent to hunt, capture, and eradicate the mutated hordes.

The hunting parties are given profiles of which mutants are valued for scientific study (capture) and which are too dangerous to roam (kill). Take your crackerjack team of specialists to the surface in a mechanized drill tank along with your Mother May-bot (artificially intelligent chaperone/drill sergeant) to keep you in contact with other squads and central command.

Good luck and Mother's Blessings be upon you!

ALT: Mutant players must rescue their comrades from a the brig inside the giant drill tank before it dives back beneath the surface.

ROUND 2: ARENA ROCKED

You're a mutated survivor of the Great Calamity who's recently been captured by those pompous human under-dwellers. They tossed you into a holding area with a great many other mutants where you were shipped to a walled-in city. There's little food, but LOTS of weapon caches in this abandoned urban wasteland. It's been turned into some sort of gladiatorial arena and you'll have to fight your fellow mutants to survive. But wait--there's an active resistance growing! It's time to set aside petty differences and form a fighting force to overcome your oppressors and escape!

ROUND 3: WALKING DREAD

You're an outlander--a human or mutant wanderer of the Gammascape's furthest reaches. As you enter a small city strange happenings give you an uneasy feeling that things are about to change in a big way. You stumble upon a skirmish between pure strains and mutants. Before you know it, a horde of zombies arrive to feast on the survivors. Outnumbered and overwhelmed, now seems like a realy good time to stick together--humans and mutants alike!

ROUND 4: INCOMING TRANSGRESSION

You're part of a new breed of Gamma Terran--an allied band of humans and mutants, trying to restore order to the ruined chaos. Reports keep streaming in about weird weather and the reanimated dead. You've got to fight off the necrotic hordes--and make allies of former foes--before something even more terrifying from beyond arrives to take control!

ALT: Undead players must divide and conquer the humans and mutants. Feast alone won't do it--they've got to turn some of them in to increase their own numbers in order to overwhelm and claim victory.

ROUND 5: BATTLE GLOBALE

The invasion has begun! Alien aggressors want this planet--ruined or not--for themselves. Only you and your coalition of humans and mutants stands in the way. Make your way to the World Security Council's HQ and activate the World Alert Beacon--the last remaining scrap of global civilization that could be humanity's only chance to call all Earthlings to arms. It's an all-out, gamma-lit, firefight. Who will claim victory in the Gamma World War?!

ALT: Alien characters are trying to put down the Earth's remaining humans and mutants and stake their claim in taking the planet!

Five adventures (modules?) seems like a good number, being not too long but still hitting all the key plot points. Plus, there's still room for a robot uprising, weaponized kaiju, and cyborg raiding party or five that I'd like to sprinkle in. :)Jay Exonautshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11336829684749993354noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9149949429019930140.post-59108267892083687752014-04-29T09:30:00.000-05:002014-04-29T09:42:50.889-05:00GODZILLA is the ultimate weapon!

HOLY F@#$! The new trailer for Godzilla reveals a previously unreleased plot detail. A BIG ONE. Monster movie fans will immediately get what's going--and it changes the big G's role in the film.

This feels like a spoiler to me, so fair warning to you--though, this just makes me want to see it even MORE!

If you watch it and comment below, spoilers be damned!

Has anyone statted-up Godzilla for use in a Gamma World or Mutant Future campaign? I recall once someone doing the Krakken from Clash of the Titans, but it was basically a force of nature. Impossible to destroy, but still had some stats to make it playable.
This recent entry by to The Line Is Drawn (a weekly online happening celebrating mashed-up comic book themes) imagines Akira being created Jack Kirby and Stan Lee. It's got all the hallmarks of a Bronze Age Kirby. This week's theme was Japanese anime and manga cast in a style of more American/western artists. The Akira/Kirby piece is by the fantastically talented Marco D'Alfonso.

Throw in a little of Kirby's own Kamandi and you've got the makings of a really interesting Gamma-style campaign!

The trailer for the second part of the rebooted Planet of the Apes series is here! Here's the official description:

A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth's dominant species.

Gary Oldman, Jason Clarke, and Judy Greer join the cast this time around. Look for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes sometime in July of 2014.

Background

These wheeled, undead terrors can be found roaming city streets and open highways around major cities, preying on the living. They are nocturnal by nature and are more often seen during full moons, which has given the impression that they are the result of some form of lycanthropy. Living flesh seems to act as their fuel source.

Appearance/Physicality

Cyclosaurs are undead cyborgs made up of skeletal remains of carnivorous animals and wheeled vehicular components. They bark, snarl, and snap as wolves, roar as Harely Davidson motorcycles when agitated, and yet emit no visible combusion. Their eyes flicker red, shining out onto the their prey.

Methods of Attack

Cyclosaurs are wild and hunt in packs of 30 to 40, in search of the living to feast upon. They employ typical biker gang behavior when pursuing prey--namely chasing or running down targets that they vastly outnumber, surrounding them, and then closing in for the kill, sometimes with a pouncing manuver.

Rumors

It's thought that cyclosaurs are some form of supercharged fossilgeist or the result of some dark necromancer's experiments with extinct animals gone awry. They've been around for centuries now, so it's unknown if their creator is still alive.

Since they seem to prefer open roads, they can't go off-road over uneven terrain...right?

The alpha leader is said to have horns like a ram, whose rings smoulder with a dim maroon glow.

Prepare to Enter the Zones!

Madman of mutant mayhem John Till over at FateSF is leading the charge for new cross-blog extravaganza called FROM THE ZONE. This is an OSR community project to create material for a post-apocalyptic setting inspired in part by the Andrei Tarkovsky film Stalker (1979).

If you've never heard of the film, he's written a great primer and set up some participation guidelines. This is open to anyone and you don't need a blog to participate. Best of all you can choose the rule system you love most, but it's perfect for that Mutant Future, X-plorers or old school Gamma World game you've got going.

It looks to be a blast so put on your thinking caps and get writing!

From FateSF:

FROM THE ZONES is a cross-blog project. Here are the details:

Write something about the Zones for the system of your choice. Describe a specific Zone, or an artifact, or a location within the Zone, a strange threat or phenomenon found in the Zone, a Zone scenario, a table of encounters, a Stalker character class, or something else.

This project is cross-system. Write for a system you love. I'll be writing for Fate Core/FAE, but you may want to write for a different system, such as Labyrinth Lord/Mutant Future, X-plorers, Diaspora, Stars Without Numbers, WaRP, Open D6, or something else. System-neutral is also fine!

Post your content to your own blog. You own whatever you write and post to your own blog.

If you don't have a blog you can write a document in Google docs.

Download the Hereticwerks Zones logo; use it in your blog post or Google doc! We will post the link to download the logo HERE as soon as it is up and ready.

Leave a comment in the comments section of this post (see below) with a link to your blog post or Google doc.

We will create a table with all the links and a brief/title description of each item here at FATE SF.

We'll start the table collecting the links as Thursday's FATE SF post. This will be an ongoing project, so share a link to your blog post or Google doc whenever it is ready.

Note: This is a re-post from Exonauts, with a few minor tweaks. Seemed appropriate since this is a post-apoc blog, after all...
